Foggy Ilkley Tarn No.4 - Original Large Ink Painting
Foggy Ilkley Tarn No.4 - Original Large Ink Painting
The Tarn is a small lake on Ilkley Moor, and this painting is representative of the way the tarn looks on a foggy day, with the trees partially visible through the mist. The colours are deep and calming. There are a few drips and dribbles near the bottom of the painting, which add to the watery effect. I have painted this view four times now, two paintings are sold and just two remain.
This large piece of artwork is painted using acrylic inks onto St. Cuthbert's Mill heavy watercolour paper. It looks like a watercolour, but I use acrylic inks for these pieces as it allows me to paint many layers of paint without lifting the previous layer. The heavy paper has a lovely rough deckle edge, which means it can be mounted in a float frame with no mount to show off the edge of the paper. Alternatively, these pieces look great with a thick white mount and modern medium size black frame.
